Marr Contracting
Marr Contracting (The Men From Marr’s) is a world leader in the design and delivery of heavy lift luffing cranes and complex craneage solutions.
Need
To provide specialised services for a bridge construction project in Turkey, Marr Contracting needed working capital.
Solution
Our Export Contract Loan and Performance Bond facility enabled Marr Contracting to deliver contracting services for the high-profile 1915 Çanakkale Bridge and Motorway Project.
Specialists in the design and delivery of heavy lift luffing crane solutions for over 90 years, Marr Contracting supports large-scale projects across the construction, infrastructure and resources sectors.
The business has worked on iconic developments across Australia, including Sydney Opera House, Snowy Mountains Hydro Scheme, Crown Casino and Sydney Metro, before taking on international projects in 2010. Its innovative service delivery approach has also earned the business several world-first engineering achievements.
Export Finance Australia gave us options about how we could support the project in Turkey, yet maintain our growth in other parts of the business, including the Australian business.

A new challenge
When Marr Contracting was awarded a construction project in Turkey for the world’s largest span suspension bridge, it developed a solution to decrease the project’s construction time and associated risk for the project.
“It was pretty revolutionary for how you build bridges,” explained Simon Marr, Director, Marr Contracting.
Supporting its vision was Marr Contracting’s local lender, who saw an opportunity to partner with Export Finance Australia and provide finance for the overseas project. This allowed Marr Contracting to free up its lending capacity for other projects in Australia.
Working with Michael Reznikov, Associate Director, Business Development for Export Finance Australia, Marr Contracting was provided an Export Line of Credit and Bond, allowing it to buy all the equipment it needed.
Simon said that Export Finance Australia’s support was vital for the success of the project and the solution aligned with its long-term growth plans.
Building relationships
Simon believes that what drove a successful outcome was Export Finance Australia’s knowledge of the business. “They got involved, were very enthusiastic, they understood our business and what we were doing. It was a really great process,” Simon explained.
“Once you get that support, then you can go off and do anything,” Simon added.
Marr Contracting's approach to solving its customer’s challenges also impressed Michael. “I have really enjoyed working with Marr Contracting on this, and their bank. It’s been a very, very educational project,” Michael stated.
Looking to the future
The support received from Export Finance Australia has allowed Marr Contracting to focus on what’s next.
“We are developing a really great relationship with Export Finance Australia, not only for this project, but we’re bringing them in so they’re hearing about what we’re doing, the growth plans for the business,” Simon remarked.
He added, “The future for us is expanding further internationally and continuing to support our clients here in Australia.”
